Cajamarca Peru

Cajamarca is the capital and largest city of the Cajamarca Region, and an important cultural and commercial centre in the northern Andes. It is located in the northern highlands of Peru, in the valley of the Mashcon River. Cajamarca has a mild highland climate, and the surrounding area has very fertile soil. Among its tourist attractions, Cajamarca offers numerous examples of Spanish colonial religious architecture, beautiful landscapes, pre-Hispanic archaeological sites, and hot springs in the nearby town of Baños del Inca. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS • Plaza de Armas • The steps on Santa Apolonia Hill lead up to the “Inca Seat”, and the hill offers a lovely view over the city. • Carnaval de Cajamarca • Catarata de Plan Manzanas, a lovely waterfall about 9 km from Cajamarca.
