Nusa Penida is an island to the southeast of Bali in Indonesia, and a district of Klungkung Regency that also includes the neighbouring small island of Nusa Lembongan. The Badung Strait separates Nusa Penida from Bali. The interior of Nusa Penida is hilly, reaching a maximum height of 524 metres, and the island is drier than nearby Bali. It’s one of the main tourist draws among the three Nusa islands and is known for its natural beauty. There are two small islands nearby – Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan – which are part of the same district (kecamatan). Administratively, the kecamatan of Nusa Penida had a population of 45,178 at the 2010 census and covers an area of 202.8 km², a figure that has changed very little since ten years earlier.
